Josh Acheampong has emerged as a target for Frank Lampard at Coventry City, with Chelsea reportedly prepared to reconsider their previous refusal to entertain offers for the defender.
The 20-year-old entered the summer regarded as one of the players Chelsea did not want to lose, with approaches from several major clubs rejected.
That position may now be changing.
According to talkSPORT, Lampard wants to take Acheampong to newly-promoted Coventry and Chelsea could become willing to discuss a deal before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea’s potential change of stance would be significant.
ReadChelsea reported in June that the Blues had rejected approaches for Acheampong and still viewed the academy graduate as part of their first-team plans.
Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all previously shown interest, while Chelsea placed Acheampong among a group considered unavailable earlier in the summer.
Lampard could now offer a very different opportunity.
Coventry are preparing for their first Premier League season in 25 years, and Acheampong would arrive with top-flight experience after making 17 league appearances for Chelsea last season.
His versatility also increases his appeal. Chelsea’s official profile lists Acheampong as capable of playing across the defensive line, with centre-back and right-back both established positions.
Chelsea must therefore balance two competing priorities.
Xabi Alonso needs to reduce an overcrowded defensive group, particularly after another busy summer of recruitment, but selling one of Cobham’s most highly-rated graduates would carry obvious long-term risk.
Acheampong remains under contract until 2029, leaving Chelsea under no financial pressure to accept a cut-price deal.
A loan could provide regular Premier League minutes without permanently losing the defender, although talkSPORT suggests a permanent transfer may also become possible.
For Chelsea, the next decision could reveal just how much their view of Acheampong has changed since the start of the summer.
