Coventry City are reportedly keen on signing Josh Acheampong from Chelsea. The newly promoted side are looking to sign him permanently, but the Blues are only open to a loan.
According to a report in talkSPORT, Chelsea have labelled Acheampong ‘untouchable’ as they see a big future for him at the club. They are unwilling to let the player go and have made it clear to Coventry City too.

However, they are willing to let him leave on loan for the season if the newly promoted side promise him enough minutes. Frank Lampard is looking to take advantage of his connection with the Blues and lure the young defender. Alex Crook of talkSPORT said:
“Keep an eye on Josh Acheampong. He’s a player that Frank Lampard would like to take to Coventry. And as we get towards the end of this window, there is a possibility that Chelsea might be willing to do that deal as well.”
Talking about the other possible exits from Chelsea this summer, Crook added that Benoit Badiashile is on his way out with others set to follow. He stated that Axel Disasi is also in talks to leave and said:
“One departure from Stamford Bridge that looks set to happen now is that of defender Benoit Badiashile. He’s off to Napoli on loan initially. There is a buy option included in the deal of around about £23 million. He might not be the only defensive departure – there are still doubts over the future of Axel Disasi. He’s wanted by both West Ham in the Championship and there’s been talks with Crystal Palace as well.”
Tosin Adarabioyo is also reported to be of interest to several Premier League clubs, while Benfica are also keeping tabs on the defender.
Josh Acheampong on training under Xabi Alonso at Chelsea
Josh Acheampong spoke to the club’s media team earlier this summer, admitted that he was in awe of working under Xabi Alonso. He said that the manager has been impressing them in training and said:
“I think the main thing he wants from us is to defend first, to be fair. Obviously, he also likes defenders that can play on the ball, so it’s just about asking and learning, to be honest. I was watching YouTube clips of him when I was younger – and still now just to learn. I feel like because he can demonstrate it – like, for example, his passing, he’ll just do it and then it’s like: ‘Wow’. So you can see first-hand what it’s like to be on that level, so it’s good.”
Chelsea have signed Max Lacroix this summer for the centre-back role, and he will be the main choice defender along with Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.
