Filip Jorgensen is set to join Strasbourg on loan from Chelsea, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that the goalkeeper is on his way to France to complete the move.
Jorgensen will spend the season with Strasbour on a temporary deal, with no option or obligation to make the transfer permanent included in the agreement. The move will give the Denmark international an opportunity to secure regular first-team football away from Stamford Bridge while continuing his development in Ligue 1.
The transfer represents another change in the goalkeeping situation at Strasbourg, with Jorgensen arriving as Mike Penders returns to Chelsea following his loan spell at the French club.
Penders spent last season with Strasbourg after joining the club on loan from Chelsea, gaining valuable experience in French football before returning to his parent club. His departure has created an opening in Strasbourg’s goalkeeping department, with Jorgensen now set to fill the vacancy.
Jorgensen joined CHELSEA from Spanish side Villarreal in 2024 and has competed for a place in the first team since his arrival in west London. The Danish goalkeeper was brought in as part of Chelsea’s efforts to strengthen their options between the posts and provide competition for established starter Robert Sanchez.
The 24-year-old has previously built his reputation in Spain, progressing through the Villarreal system before making his senior breakthrough. His performances eventually attracted Chelsea, who saw potential in his ability to play out from the back and operate as a modern goalkeeper.
Great move for Filip to make.
For a young goalkeeper, there is no substitute for playing matches. Every save, mistake, cross claimed and decision made under pressure contributes to a goalkeeper’s development. A season in France could give Jorgensen the consistency and responsibility he needs to take his game to another level.
The move could also benefit CHELSEA . Rather than allowing a promising goalkeeper to stagnate on the bench, the club can send him somewhere where he is expected to play regularly. Jorgensen can return to Stamford Bridge with greater confidence, experience and a clearer understanding of what it takes to be a first-choice goalkeeper.
Strasbourg also represents a strong environment for his development. Playing in Ligue 1 will expose him to a different style of football and new tactical demands, while testing him against quality opposition
