Filip Jorgensen is set to join Strasbourg on loan from Chelsea, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that the goalkeeper is on his way to France to complete the move.
Jorgensen will spend the season with Strasbourg on a temporary deal, with no option or obligation to make the transfer permanent included in the agreement. The move will give the Denmark international an opportunity to secure regular first-team football away from Stamford Bridge while continuing his development in Ligue 1.
The transfer represents another change in the goalkeeping situation at Strasbourg, with Jorgensen arriving as Mike Penders returns to Chelsea following his loan spell at the French club.
Penders spent last season with Strasbourg after joining the club on loan from Chelsea, gaining valuable experience in French football before returning to his parent club. His departure has created an opening in Strasbourg’s goalkeeping department, with Jorgensen now set to fill the vacancy.
Jorgensen joined CHELSEA from Spanish side Villarreal in 2024 and has competed for a place in the first team since his arrival in west London. The Danish goalkeeper was brought in as part of Chelsea’s efforts to strengthen their options between the posts and provide competition for established starter Robert Sanchez.
The 23-year-old has previously built his reputation in Spain, progressing through the Villarreal system before making his senior breakthrough. His performances eventually attracted Chelsea, who saw potential in his ability to play out from the back and operate as a modern goalkeeper.
However, competition for playing time at Chelsea has remained intense, with the club continuing to maintain several goalkeeping options within its squad. A loan move to Strasbourg could therefore provide Jorgensen with the consistent minutes required to further his development.
For Strasbourg, the arrival of Jorgensen provides a goalkeeper with top-level experience and familiarity with the demands of a competitive European league. His temporary move also offers the French side flexibility, while CHELSEA retain full control over his long-term future.
The absence of a permanent-transfer clause is significant. It means Jorgensen’s future beyond the loan spell will remain in Chelsea’s hands, with the player expected to return to Stamford Bridge once his season in France concludes unless another agreement is reached.
