Switzerland were left to rue their missed chances in a disappointing draw against Qatar in their World Cup opener.

Switzerland looked like they would coast the game after taking the lead after just 17 minutes thanks to a controversial penalty from Breel Embolo.

They continued to dominate passion throughout but were unable to extent their lead despite the number of chances they had.

As the game entered its final few minutes, Qatar managed to snatch their first ever World Cup points through a fine header from veteran defender Boualem Khoukhi.

The Swiss had an incredible 26 shots across the game, the most in the side’s history since records began in 1966.
