It’s quite a remarkable step down from Italian giants Juventuswhere he lasted just one season before getting sacked in May 2021.

Pirlo took charge of Sampdoria following a season with Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk, but again, he was let go after failing to secure promotion back to Serie A.

Speaking to SportWeek, as quoted by Football Italiathe former midfielder believes he has been unfairly treated throughout his managerial career.

“If I look at my career as a coach, I’ve always reached the targets,” he said.

“I left and didn’t coach for a year; I don’t know why. Actually, I know, but I prefer not to say it. Then I went to Karagumruk and finished seventh, a result that had never been achieved by that club, with an unbeaten record.

“At Sampdoria, we reached the Serie B play-off, as demanded. The following season, I was sacked after just three games.

“This season at United, they asked for promotion, and I achieved it. I’ve always brought the results, but if somebody doesn’t like me, it’s another story.”
