Manchester United are wasting no time in strengthening their squad after returning to the Champions League.

Michael Carrick earmarked his midfield as a position requiring extra depth, having already agreed to sign Ederson in a £35 million transfer from Atalanta.

Ederson’s addition to the engine room is a much-welcomed one following Casemiro’s departure, and he isn’t the only midfielder the Red Devils are eyeing.

Elliot Anderson, of course, is United’s top target, but he would cost a British record transfer fee to lure him away from Nottingham Forest.

That explains why Man United are one of several clubs eyeing Barcelona sensation Marc Casadoand according to Saturday’s edition of Sports Worldsuper-agent Jorge Mendes can play a crucial role in bringing him to Old Trafford.

United have “very close ties” with Mendes, who is crucially Casado’s representative, and the 22-year-old could be a cheaper option for the Premier league giants to explore.

The Spanish maestro only made 10 starts in LaLiga last term, seeing his game time restricted by Hansi Flick due to the sheer quality of options at his disposal.

A switch to Manchester, meanwhile, would surely promise regular first-team football, and former international teammate Bryan Zaragoza would surely endorse a transfer.

“He’s an animal,” Zaragoza said of Casado after making his first-team debut for Spain. “I don’t even know what to say about how he played. He’s barbaric.”
