Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer has revealed the incident that led to his viral head-scratching meme. Palmer has become one of the most popular footballers in the Premier League since his move to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has a very famous celebration where he crosses his arms and rubs his shoulders as if he is shivering from the cold. He also became a meme for a picture where he was seen scratching his head, looking baffled.

The England international has now revealed the reason for his reaction that led to him becoming a viral meme. He said, as quoted by The Sun:

“I remember we had an indirect free-kick against Villa, and I was gonna do my own thing. Then someone has come up to me and said “aim for the keepers’ legs”, I’m looking at him thinking, bro what?”

Palmer added:

“That’s what he was saying to me, but then on Instagram they just caption it however they want – that was it though.”

Cole Palmer will be looking to get back to his best for Chelsea this season following an underwhelming season by his usual standards. He missed 26 games with injury problems last time out and did not look at his best when he was on the pitch.

The attacking midfielder played only 2443 minutes of first-team football last season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists. He is expected to be a player for the Blues under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Palmer became a superstar almost immediately after his reported £42.5 million move to Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023. In his first season, he scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists in 48 games and was named PFA Young Player of the Year.

Morgan Rogers has dismissed concerns that Chelsea could struggle to fit both him and Cole Palmer in the same team. The Blues splashed £117 million for Rogers’ services this summer following his impressive stint at Aston Villa.

Rogers has been reunited with his close friend Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge having formerly spent time at Manchester City. Both players came through the Cityzens’ esteemed youth system and share a very good bond off the pitch.

Rogers has dismissed concerns that he and Palmer could struggle to fit into the same team. He has highlighted how their different skillset would be beneficial for Chelsea. The 24-year-old said:

“I’ve seen people saying, ‘how are you going to fit them in? How are they going to play?’ We have completely different qualities. He’s more of a passer, a linker, a combiner. He’s like an artist in the way he moves with the ball and plays with it. I’m more direct, more straight line and more physical. We’re completely different and that offsets really well.”

He added:

“I’ve known his game, he’s known my game since we were what, 14? We’ve played with each other at England and stuff like that, so we know exactly how to play with each other and to get the best out of each other.”

Morgan Rogers earned his big move to Chelsea following an impressive two-and-a-half-year spell at Aston Villa. He made 125 appearances for the Lions and contributed with 31 goals and 29 assists.
