Liverpool are reportedly set to face competition from Newcastle United and Coventry City for AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori. The Englishman is a target for all three Premier League sides as he looks to make a switch.
According to a report in Quotidiano Sportivo, Andoni Iraola wants to sign a defender this summer despite adding Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. The manager is not happy with the options at the club, and has urged the Reds to find another centre-back.

Tomori has been linked with a move this summer, as AC Milan are ready to cash-in on the former Chelsea man. The Englishman is also said to be interested in moving back to England and is looking for the best opportunity.
Liverpool currently have Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil Van Dijk as the options alongside Araujo. Iraola sees Tomori as the ideal addition to the side, as three of his current options are injury prone and have had serious knee issues in the last year.
Newcastle United are also keen on signing Tomori this summer, but have not made a move yet. The Magpies have expressed interest, but are ye to hold talks with AC Milan.
Coventry City are also in the race, with Frank Lampard leading the chase. The manager worked with Tomori at Chelsea and is pushing to lure him to the newly promoted Premier League side this summer.
Jamie Carragher not happy with Liverpool’s move
Jamie Carragher is not a fan of Liverpool signing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. The Reds legend claimed that they should have got someone who was more experienced and also a player who was playing regularly and said on the Football Ramble podcast:
“Liverpool should have gone for a centre-back with more experience instead of opting for a player who has always been a substitute for a 19-year-old Pau Cubarsi. Arriving here on loan after being told that he is not a starter at Barça, he seems a bit reactive instead of a star signing. I would rather have a permanent solution that fits into the system in the long-term. Let’s watch him play first, but I’m not getting excited yet.”
Barcelona loaned out Araujo to Liverpool for the season, as he was excess to requirements at the club. The Reds have the option to sign him permanently for €55 million next summer, if he manages to impress at Anfield in the 2026/27 season.
