He wants a tighter first-team squad, with roughly 25 senior players competing for places instead of an overloaded dressing room that leaves too many players without meaningful minutes.

Mbaye has enormous potential, yet he has started only 14 top-flight league matches in his career and still needs regular football to sharpen his game. Spending up to $57.8 million on another developing winger feels hard to defend when Chelsea arguably require defensive reinforcements and an established midfielder far more urgently.
