Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has thrown his weight behind new signing Maxence Lacroix after his £52 million move from Crystal Palace. The France international moved to Stamford Bridge from South London, having enjoyed a fine spell with the Eagles.

In a chat with the club’s official website, Cahill praised the club’s decision to bring in the centre-back this summer. He pointed out that the defender has many years ahead of him and backed him to take his career to the next level after joining the Blues.

“He’s a great player and it’s a really smart signing. I think he’s at a great age now as well and he’s had that experience of playing regularly in the Premier League. There’s still plenty of years ahead of him to progress and learn. And to come to a club like Chelsea, it gives him that platform to kick on.

He’s obviously been involved at the World Cup with the French national team and he’s put himself on that platform and into that sort of pedigree now. But again, similar to when I moved to Chelsea, you get that opportunity to take your career to the next level”, he said (via Goal.com).

Lacroix joins Xabi Alonso‘s side after helping Crystal Palace pick up silverware in each of the last two seasons. The former Wolfsburg man also featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with France, playing three times in the competition.

The Blues appear set to address their defensive struggles from the 2025-26 season by bringing in a number of new defenders, including Marco Palestra. The Blues finished 10th, conceding 52 goals in the 38-game Premier League campaign.

Chelsea star set for Serie A switch: Reports

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is set to complete a move to Serie A outfit Como, as per reports. The England international is set to move to Italy after a breakthrough was reached in negotiations between both clubs following weeks of talks.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues will receive around £30 million in total for the 27-year-old centre-back this summer. The Blues academy graduate is keen to join the Italian side, particularly with the offer of UEFA Champions League football available. They will receive a sell-on percentage if the Englishman leaves Como.

Trevoh Chalobah has been at Chelsea since he was seven years old, rising through the ranks at Stamford Bridge. He has played 151 times for the club, winning multiple trophies in youth football and at senior level.
