Man City want to give the Croatian international a new long-term contract, and according to BBC Sportthe Cityzens are “feeling positive” in discussions with the 24-year-old over an improved deal.
The ball-playing defender missed a large portion of the last campaign after suffering a broken leg in January, and returned for the 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the start of May.
Arguably one of the best centre-backs in world football on his day, Gvardiol has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and an opportunity to work under Vincent Kompany.
But with talks over an extension said to be “progressing well”, City supporters will hope that their No. 24 puts pen to paper after the World Cup.
Gvardiol is set to play a starring role for Croatia at the tournament, starting with a showdown against England, almost four years on from producing some exceptional performances in Qatar.
