Jurgen Klopp stance on Al-Ittihad switch revealed as talks resumed

Al-Ittihad continue to pursue Jurgen Klopp, but instead of hiring him as a manager, he could take on a different role.

Klopp emerged as a “dream” target for Al-Ittihad at the end of May, only two years after leaving Liverpool.

Their chances of persuading him to join as manager were instantly shut down, though, as Klopp reportedly wants to continue in his role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, a position he has held since October 2024.

But according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Klopp has been offered a role as Technical Director to oversee the club’s transfer operations.

Tavolieri has claimed that the legendary German boss wouldn’t be “opposed” to joining the Saudi Pro League side, with talks between both parties resuming after his agent denied the rumours.

Klopp will only join Al-Ittihad on the “condition” that he is allowed to leave after the start of the new season, approximately seven games after his contract with Red Bull ends.

The 58-year-old could link up with former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho if he moves to the Saudi Arabian giants, having previously captured the Brazilian from Monaco for the Reds in 2018.
